We are an interdisciplinary working group in the field of Forensic Medicine, Human Genetics and Cardiology, studying sudden death in Switzerland (SMW 2015). One focus is sudden cardiac death during leisure-time sports and in athletes, since sport is a major trigger for life-threatening arrhythmias in subjects with a predisposition. Our aim is to generate reliable data on the causes and the magnitude of the problem in Switzerland, to propose appropriate measures for screening and prevention. Moreover, we want to expand the possibility of cardiogenetic counseling and medical evaluation for relatives of sudden death victims.
We are supported by all major Swiss sports associations and the Swiss societies of Sports Medicine, Cardiology, Legal Medicine and Medical Genetics.
